ABOUT

Hi, I'm Amy Batchelor, I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist.

Finding the right counsellor for you can be difficult, but I do understand the therapeutic relationship between a client and counsellor is important for you to really benefit from counselling. For some, just looking for a counsellor is a big step in itself so take it easy and take your time to find the right one.

Thank you for visiting the page, please read on if you would like to know a little bit about me, my approach and what I do.....

HEY......

It is likely that you are looking at this page because you or someone else may be interested in counselling and maybe wondering how it can actually help you or another.

You may have questions like.......

‘What can just talking to a counsellor really do?’

Well counselling isn’t like talking to someone you know like a supportive family member or friend because despite good intentions from those around us, they already have a relationship with you. That relationship means they are emotionally attached to you, and you to them. Whilst they believe they know who you are and what you need (and this maybe true)...... sometimes you need a space  to just be you without taking into consideration what everybody else needs and wants for you. It also can be very difficult for you to tell those you love how low you are really feeling, especially if they are going through a hard time themselves.

‘What if something major hasn’t affected me and I just feel like I want some help or to better understand the person I am?’

It is very common for people to believe that an event/situation/loss must have happened for them to come to counselling. However, if you feel you would benefit from counselling that is the only reason you need, and it is within the sessions that we can explore your expectations whether that be to feel better, to know more about yourself or for things to just be a bit clearer.

I will welcome and embrace you as an individual, factoring in age, race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, culture, background. I will not pretend to be an expert on these factors that make you who you are, as that’s you, you’re the expert. However, I will listen to the importance of these factors to understand what makes you who you are.

Anxiety and depression can affect anyone, they can also exist without the person knowing why that maybe, which in turn can lead to more anxiety and depression. Yes, everything on paper maybe great in your life so what is there to be depressed or anxious about?! But it doesn’t work like that does it?! Struggling with your mental health is not a weakness, it takes enormous strength to get up each day whilst being crippled with strong feelings of anxiousness, depression and/or numbness but you don't have to be alone in that fight.

Please get in touch if you feel that counselling might be right for you. There is no obligation to commit to a certain amount of sessions at any point and we can arrange to have a free informal chat on the phone to discuss whether counselling would be beneficial before coming to your first session.

I work with people who have difficulties with.....

Anxiety; depression; bereavement; low self esteem; sexual, physical and mental abuse; trauma; loss; relationship problems; illness and life events.
